i have a 1976 2hp. i've had it since it was new and at the time i bought it it was just called a 2hp. i have been looking at used listing to try and figure a value for it. i have noticed that some are called a 2hp COLT. when did johnnyrude start calling them a Colt or was that a non USA designation? is there any differance? they look the same in the ad pictures.

Evinrude used to call the 2-horse single the Mate through about 1974. After that Evinrude gave up on trying to name all their motors.

I believe the Colt name was a nickname that Johnson began using around the late 1980s. It does appear in my 1990 brochure as a Colt. Colt, as in baby horse (seahorse in this case).

Re: 2 hp Evinrude

you probably need to get the carb settings correct - there's info in the Top Secret files how to set it. I'd try that first.
