2hp 1978 Johnson Seahorse ran fine last year, as it has for the previous 40 years.
Last fall, I drained the gas and stored in the boathouse. This year, I filled with fresh gas/oil, installed new plug, pulled start rope, but there is no spark. What could be the problem? How should I diagnose?

Thanks,

pull the flywheel.----The coil is likely cracked.-----Cheap to replace.----New points / condenser also a good idea.

Thanks Racerone. Sounds easy enough. I’ve pulled F/W before. Is marineengine.com best parts source,

Your local outboard shop will likely have the parts in stock.-----That is if the local shop that actually repairs motor is still around.----They are disappearing fast !

Our outboard shop closed after many years, so any part I need I just go online or buy from a dealer in used parts.
