2 manufacturers use the same matching transome/outdrive hole(s)???

I heard that a mercruiser outdrive transome hole is the same as <insert correct manufactuer here>? I can not remember where I saw this, but, is it true, for the alpha 1 drives? If so, which one also fits in there? I think it was OMC that I saw but I can not remember...

The OMC cobra drives used the same hole. I think the later Volvo drives did too, the sx? I'm not 100% sure about the Volvo.

Yes - OMC Cobra fits similar-year Merc stuff. Same hole (how else would OMC have gained market fast if boat manufacturers had to make a diff. transom?) I can't remember which Merc gen that would be.

I was told by someone to never buy a boat with a OMC Cobra on it,,why is this?

Probably because OMC has been Out of Business for Years.......

That means there's No factory Support,... Zip, None, Nada........

Well, I am not so worried about the hard parts as much as the hole in the transome itself. i see a lot of OMC boats i would like with blown engines or drives. If I knew which ones for sure, I have the engine transome mount and drives ready to go.

Looks like 2 for cobra though...

All of these use the same cutout. Some of the big block engines also require a couple more holes.

OMC Cobra.
Mercruiser Pre Alpha, all Alpha and Bravo drives.
Volvo SX and DP-S type drives
