Guys,

My friend has a new-to-him boat that came with a '97 115 hp Johnson (model XJ115HXEUA). His tilt assembly is leaking badly, and the piston is pretty pitted, so he is looking to get a new assembly. I've seen them on eBay and other places for a range of years and horsepowers. I looked at the schematic on the shopevinrude site, but can't tell if his tilt/trim motor is a 2 wire motor, or a three wire motor. Do any of you know for sure?

I did some looking around based on the motor part number (0435548), and the Sierra units that I found as alternates appear to be two wire motors, but I wanted to make sure before he orders anything.

Thanks.

Original equipment would have been a 2 wire motor. The easeist way to tell them apart is to look to see if it has relays (2 wire motor) or solenoids (3 wire motor).

Also - 1997 would be a FasTrac style trim system - they are quite different from the older style...
