My boat is rated for 25HP I have a 9.9 older merc. on now, that I pretty much went over the hole thing.
I will be replacing this motor when I can pay for a better one.
A 15hp is what I have in mind, is a 4 cycle better than a 2 cycle?
I do a lot of trolling

Re: 2 or 4 cycle ?

Four-stokes are probably a little quiet and sip a little less fuel than a two stroke but if you do a lot of slow speed operation, be aware that four strokes can "make oil". What that means is the oil level in the crankcase can rise eventually getting to the point where it can be considered over-full. The engine is not producing oil but the oil is being contaminated with unburned fuel from excessive slow speed operation or an incorrect prop resulting in the engine lugging. I certainly don't mean to imply this ALWAYS happens. Just be aware that it can. As for one being better than the other, you need to determine in "what way". Four strokes are heavier. They have more parts. they are more expensive. They are generally a bit slower. Only you can determine what is important for you.

Thanks for the reply, sounds like I will stay with a good 2 cycle.
