The boat is a 1989 Sea Ray Sundancer with newer 350s (260hp) and bravo out drives. Not sure on the year of the engines, but supposedly from 2005. They're still carb'd, however they have serpentine belt and electric fuel pump and look the same as
1st problem: The starboard engine won't shut off when you turn the key off. I have to unplug the coil wire from the distributor to kill the engine. I replaced the ignition switch because it was original and stiff, but that wasn't the problem. I've been told that it's probably the internal diode in the alt that's letting the current back-feed into the ignition circuit. Can I just wire in an external diode instead of having to replace/refurb the alt? If so, which wire? Not sure on the year but it's new enough for electric fuel pump and serp belt, but still a carb motor.
2nd question. Same engine, electric fuel pump starts running once I turn the battery switch on and won't turn off until I shut the switch off. Been like this since I bought the boat 3 weeks ago. When I had to work on the boat a week ago I had to disconnect and remove the batteries, and after reinstalling them into the boat a few days later, turned the switch on and fuel pump didn't come on. (like how it's supposed to always be) Once I ran the engine and shut it off, fuel pump was still on until the battery switch was turned off, and is back to staying on with the battery switch.Where should I start looking to get the fuel pump to shut off like it's supposed to?
I have an older boat and have the aftermarket fuel pumps wired up to the oil pressure switch on the back, but they're gen iv big blocks and I don't see an oil pressure pickup/switch on the back of these small blocks like the big blocks I have so I'm not sure where to start.
