my first problem is lack of ability to show fish within 20 feet the bottom in depths greater than 80 to 100 feet. i usually have the depth range zoomed in within 10 to 20 feet ot the bottom. also i have a problem reading bottom quite often when using the 50 power. hardly ever a problem when using 200. the depth display just blinks showing an incorrect depth. usually after 1 to 10 minutes of blinking while sitting achored it will start to read properly but only if boat is not moving. it does this even when all other electrical equipment is turned off including radio, motor, and baitwell. any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.

RicJr
To see fish in deeper water it is very important to turn up the sensitivity. The way I do it is turn the sensitivy up until you get lots of false readings. Then turn down to point where only have a few false readings. On the Lcx-16 you can adjust sensitivity in both manual and automatic mode. Hit menu key then use arrow keys to highlite sensitivy, then hit enter and again use the arrow keys to raise sensitivity, exit when you get where you want it. If you have it set right you should see surface clutter and that is ok. You should also see some false readings in the area you want to fish.

I would adjust the sensitivity same way for the 50 Khz mode. If you are loosing bottom in 50khz mode then look at the screen if it is mostly black then lower sensitivity but if it is all white then turn the sensitivy way up.

Loosing bottom when moving will normaly be transducer is in an area where it is picking up air bubbles from the hull.

There is one more reason that will cause you not to see fish near the bottom if you are fishing an area with very uneven bottom but not much you can do about it.

Good luck
