I have a quicksilver 2000 box:

What is the detent screw for on the box. Turning does what?


Mercury 115 hp inline 6, 1985:
Can I just change the filter screens on the carbs without taking them off?
Can I take these screens out, leave them out and run a filter inline with the hose before it gets to the engine?

If you are referring to the knob on the front (see attachment), it is a brake adjuster which applies friction to the throttle arm to hold it in place. Too loose and it will meander aimlessly losing rpm as you cruise along.

What filter screen are you referring to?

Keith, If you are referring to the screens under the brass fittings, on the back drag carbs, you may remove them w/o removing the carbs. However, these screens are downstream of the main screen so they hardly ever get dirty. You can leave them on if you want.

An inline fuel filter is a good idea. Get a 3/8" ID one.

the ones on the top/side of each carb.


thanks for the help, but that is the older control box. I have the 2000 w/o the warmup lever. there are two screws on the box, one for friction, the other for detent. I am wanting to know what the detent screw does. does it move my idle detent forward and back?????
