It has a resistor block but I don't know how to check it or anything else to get spark, It is a chevy 305 w/ points.
my 2nd ? is how can I get the lower unit down? It is a volvo 280 outdrive and there are no celenoids that I can find, just a 4 prong plug and the switch is not working. Thanks for any help. Boatman1959

Boatman, you will need to do some basic checks starting with points & condenser (always the first port of call when you have no spark)If you are not sure how to check then a local mechanic may be in order (dosn't have to be a marine mech)
The 280 had a electric/mechanical lifting system (not hydraulic) it sounds like someone has disconected it (why?). Remove the elec. motor (looks like a small starter motor) inside the housing is a slotted rod, turn the rod with a screwdriver, it will take a while but the leg will drop.
