Hello this is my 1st time posting here and i'm hoping someone here can give me some valuable info.I had my boat out on the water for the 1st time this year and it was driving me nuts.I would have the throttle wide open then after a few minutes the engine would just bog down and then kill.It wouldn't start up again right away until I fiddled with it a bit. This is the 1st time it's done this.I've had trouble with starting it since i've had it(bought used about 3 years ago). There are times when I couldn't get it started so I would use the advanced throttle to start it then after that it would fire up with no problem after that.I'm sure starting it like that is very hard on the engine. The only things i've done mechanically to it was had it winterized and put in a new battery.I also changed he spark plugs last night when I brought it home. Can someone please help me with what's going on:confused: any info would be GREATLY appreciated.

#1 starting is the purpose if the throttle advance lever. bogging is probably caused from a fuel restriction, or air leak, are you sure the vents on the fuel tank are open and clear. when were the carbs last clean and rebuilt. possible failing fuel pump.

What year is the motor?
I just bought a boat with a 1988 60hp on it, I got it cheap because it was doing the same thing that yours is doing. I figured it was a fuel delivery issue so I bought a new primer bulb and fuel filter. I have not used or even started the motor yet. I will be monitoring your post so please provide update when you get her fixed. Good luck.

I'm not sure when the carbs were last cleaned. Is this a spendy service for someone who's never worked on a engine? Do you think a tune up will fix this problem? What does a tune up consist of?

The motor is a 99.I've been told it's a fuel issue and i've been told it's the water pump.Me and a friend ran the motor with the ear muffs and it wasn't spitting out any water.I think this is where i'm going to start by replacing the water pump.I was told with the water pump not working it's running hot and the engine is shutting down.If this doesn't fix the problem i'm going to guess it is a fuel problem.I'll keep you updated.
