I got a new used boat last year and had been working great, after a few months it started having a hard time starting some days, while running in rougher water it would bog sometimes and not run great, then while in some really rougher water I was running it harder and then it just bogged and died out :grumpy: I used the trolling motor to get back to the dock (that wasn't fun) at least it was fairly close. got home and got to work, started checking items and then assumed it had to be carburation. but it would cough out the bottom carb and some days I would have fuel mix dripping, hmmm flooding??? took the carbs off and look where the missing screw from the intake housing was, It must of been bouncing around there for a while, untill the reed valve grapped it (it was missing since I bought the boat). locktite and safty wire where added. I check alot more before and after each outing.

I have a reed plate from a 1960's model 40 hp , show folks how something that simple will send a motor to the scrap heap..---Screw stuck and holding a reed open.-----Difficult for some folks to tell / diagnose the crankcase compression issues !
