2 Stroke Oil Habits, Filling, Storage ?

I have a 2 stroke outboard. My question is, how do you deal with the oil? I have kept a jug of it on board with a covered measuring cup etc... tried to keep a marked water bottle filled with the 400 mls of oil needed for full tank , etc etc...

Always seems dirty and not fun to do...

What do you do? What are some ideas to keep it clean, easy to do , etc etc...

Thanks

Personally, with a 6hp engine, I have a portable 6 gallon plastic jerry can. I fill that when it's empty, then fill the boat tank from it. That way, I don't have to deal with half-empty bottles of oil rattling around in my vehicle or boat.

I just use the measurments on the side of the oil bottle. Close is good enough, as long as you're close on the high side.

Is there a preferred brand or type of two stroke oil?

I just picked up a gallon from a nation wide big box store, private label brand. Says it approved by all engine manufactures.

I would not want to find out later this was a poor choice,

I Hope this is not a high jack...

Was it Pennzoil Premium at about $13. a gallon? That has been recommended on the forum by other users and was the last oil I purchased, also at the box store. If so, you done good...

I have the same container that 'Tashas..." has. No issues, easy to use and store.

Any good name brand TCW-3 oil will work. I tend to stay with OEM stuff.

I have just got the same measuring container since converting to pre-mix. I am also using the same oil. Get it at Wal Mart in Alabama when I am there on business trips. $5 cheaper than the Wal Mart in Canada.
TCW-3 2 stroke oil and all is well !!!

I found that wally w blue bottle $1 oil is green in color, white bottle$1.56 marine oil wally spec is blue. So green is valv and blue merc? I prefer the merc blue oil for some strange reason. I just bought used nissan 5hp outboard came with 10 plus sierra oils its blue but thicker than merc stuff.

i use the oil mixing bottle also.

look on the pump and see how many gallons you got, fill the bottle to that amount with the mix ratio you use and pour in the tank. its simple and . . . well . . . not always clean, atleast not for me.

Re: 2 Stroke Oil Habits, Filling, Storage ?

I buy bulk oil from my local OMC/BRP dealer both because it supports his business and because it is slightly less expensive than buying the oil that I was purchasing at Wally World.

I also bought fifteen mixing bottles over a period of time. I fill each with enough oil for 12 gallons of fuel at 50:1, and keep them in a rack in my workshop. Since my saddle tanks hold 12 gallons each, I keep a couple of the bottles in the boat all of the time. As I use them, I swap the empties out for full bottles from the rack. Every once in awhile I have to refill the bottles to restock my rack, but the system is pretty easy and seems to work well for me.

Re: 2 Stroke Oil Habits, Filling, Storage ?

This posting must have been an omen. Talk about a mess? When I got home from work last night I looked over at my new gallon (used 6 oz out of it so far?) of Wally oil and it was laying on it?s side oozing oil from the cap all over the top of the workbench, the battery charger, and into a small puddle on the floor. Probably only a couple of oz?s, but it sure looks like a lot when it?s spread out.

Trash that?s good to know about the Wally oil, this is my first time using it. I just picked up a Suzuki 1983 DT50 and it has very low hours on it. The oil I used the first time out was old and I believe it fouled the plugs. I am taking the boat out tomorrow for a day of fishing I?ll know more then.

Reminds me I need to jump to the Fresh water-fishing forum??Got-to-Go?
