Hi all,
I have a 2000 250 johnson two stroke. I live in Mexico. This motor sucks a lot of fuel and oil. Most days I go through about fifty galons of fuel, AND TWO GALLONS OF OIL. My math ain't the greatest but at 50 to 1 it shold be one gallon of oil. Why am I burning so much oil? the motor does not appear to smoke a lot and in the last four months I have put 200 hundred hours on the motor.

which brings up my next question. since I pay about 25.00 dollars a gallon for oil here in Mexico, what is the cheapest tcw-3 oil I can purchase in the states. I can have someone bring it down for me.

I've found the walmart brand - super tec - tcw3 to be good and inexpensive. I believe a lot of guys on the forum use this routinely.

Could be due to fuel flow restriction. Check pick from tank fuel line for restrictions, fuel filter etc. Also check for air leaks into fuel line. Anywhere from tank to pump.

Holy cow!!! Fifty gallons of fuel a day? Do you mind sharing what you are doing with that motor?

I don't have an answer for the excessive oil use, but I can't help thinking of the terrible reputation the Ficht motors have. Your's certainly doesn't seem to be so bad if you are getting that kind of use out of it.

$25.00 a gallon for TCW-3 oil doesn't sound like it's anything out of the ordinary. All oil is horribly expensive now. I pay about the same for automotive oil too. If you're burning up 50 gallons of fuel with two gallons of fuel, it sounds like you're running about 25:1.

If you want to get a boat that uses considerably less fuel, I would sell the one you have and get an Inboard/outboard type or inboard. Outboards are noted for excessive fuel consumption when you have anything that's over 50hp.
With an I/O unit, you can probably get by all day on about 1/3 of the fuel consumption.

Myself, I would only own an outboard if it's 50hp or smaller.
