I read somewhere that starting in 2008 Yamaha would not be importing any 2 strokes for retail sales. The only ones coming over were to be for Commercial use only. A dealer at our recent boat show said otherwise. Who's right?

Re: 2-Stroke Yamaha Availability

dunno, we are still selling them and they are still listed in the 08 product guide.
I know suzuki quit importing 2 strokes many years ago and the 2 stroke Yamaha line up for the US market has been shrinking steadily. that being said I ordered a 130 2 stroke from venemarine a few weeks back. the only midrange V carbed 2 strokes left in the US line up is the 20" 115 and the 25" 150 and I am not sure how long they will survive.
BRP dropped 4 strokes from the US line up completely not long ago and I think Tohatsu has pinned its hopes on its TLDI technology. the next 7 years or so will be interesting anyway.

Yamaha will still have HPDI two-strokes, but they are using up the last of their EPA credits now on the carbed models. Yamaha 2-stroke carbed engines will be 100% gone for good for the 09 model year.

My main concern was for the "portable" models, 25 HP and below.
