Re: 2 stroke

Not to my knowledge. Mainly has to do with emissions regulations. Can't get the small outboard 2 strokes to meet the requirement. Larger E-tecs no problem.

Don't be afraid to get an older Johnson/Evinrude, they are fantastic bullit proof engines.

Re: 2 stroke

I have a 1997 Mercury 3.3 hp 2-stroke for my jon boat. I bought it on ebay for $600 4 yrs ago. Don't be afraid to buy used, Mine has given me 0 problems and starts on the second pull every time. I think these things were designed to last forever!

Agree!

I had a 2HP Evinrude that was in bad storage for 13 years and when I got it out 2 years ago, it started. Ok it needed a carb cleaning +adjustment, impeller and a new plug. After that it always fired up on the first pull even cold and compression was at 135 PSI. To bad I sold it.

I hate those small new 4 strokes single cylinder, they shake like hell and they are noisy. My 2HP weighted 24 pounds, the 2.5 Merc weights 41 pounds (dry)

For me, nothing was better for trolling then my 1980 4.5 HP Johnson, can get it very slow without fouling the plugs. Actually I had 2 but my first one overheated and compression got low.

The 6 HP Evinrude/Johnson that they made from '68-'79 were the most popular motors for fishing.
