Does anyone know of an effort to get an exemption for "Classic" outboards? I have a 1948 Snipe sailboat with an early 50s Martin 4 HP. Both are in great condition. I was kicked off of Lake Tahoe and threatened with severe fines because its a 2 Stroke. I had taken great pains to keep a period look to the rig, all hardware on the boat is old bronze, canvas deck, varnished wood. The martin ran but lacked a lower rear cowling. I fabricated one out of fiberglass. (I still have the mold if anyone need a repro lower rear cowling for his or her Martin 40) I found the people at Larson Outboard Service for points and condenser. The motor is perfect due to its great slow running and quiet (almost) smoke free operation. No way do I want to slap some modern 4_stroke on this rig. Vintage automobile folks were able to get relief from modern requirements by using vintage plates or exemptions from smog rules if over a certain age. People who collect / restore vintage outboards need to actively work on this or the day may come when these fine pieces of history will only be seen but not heard.
My question is, Is anyone lobbying for exemptions now? If so who? If not, how can I get started? Or should I get started? Or is this just another symptom of the C-Nile virus? (I am over 50 after all)

Don't think youre off the hook just because you don't live here. What starts in California has a habit of spreading to the rest of the country. Dont get me wrong, I'm not against a clean environment, but lets not throw out the baby with the bathwater
Reply to this forum or to me at eugh@REMOVE2xtreme.net
Im having a SPAM problem so fix my address first.
48SNIPE
