20" 0r 25" Transom

I have been looking on different sites for used 1700 or 1800 Fisherman and was wondering if there are good points or bad points for the 20" transon verses the 25" transom. I would rather have the higher transon but wondered if it made that much difference?

I just got my first Lund last fall. A used 16' with a 20" transom, matching 30 hp Johnson. Seems plenty to me, but then I'm used to a 14' Sea Nymph with a much shorter transom, guessing 15" but dont know for sure. I will only use it in a small lake with limited exposure to wind or heavy traffic, so little in the way of chop. I suppose your choice should take into consideration the weight of the motor you plan to hang off it, and what other cargo will be in the boat, along with what you intend to use it for. Reaching over the long sides of a tall boat might get tiresome.

I really don't think the transom hight will make much of a difference since both will have the same overall hight in the back and splashwells. I've noticed that Lund is starting to offer a 25" transom Option on alot of there boats. I really think that limits your engine choices in the HP range needed for a 17-18' boat.

If you are a walleye fisherman and do a lot of back-trolling, the 25-inch transom would be great as you get much less splashing into the splash well and could probably get by without wave wackers.
