You have more choices than that -- it's just that that's all the dealer offered you. In fact you don't even need to take a yamaha if you prefer something elese. More convenient to buy the "package" but why not go for what you want. Chances are the dealer also sells Mercury and possibly Evinrude and Honda. Buy the pontoon with no pre-rigging. In this market if they don't want to do that, tell them to take a hike. Then negotiate on the engine of choice (installed of course). Regardless, if you plan to do any towing at all, 90 HP is a must.

Well if a 90 is good, then the 225 Honda must be just almost perfect! Never heard anyone say "damm just too much horsepower"

Go with the 90 four stoke! I have a 2006 20' Bentley 200 cruise with a 90 hp mercury 4 stroke. I have pulled tubes with the boat loaded down with coolers, 6 adults and two kids with no problem. I can hit 20 mph pulling a tube. And believe it or not it will pull me out of the water on a pair of skies. I weigh 230 lbs too!!
Nice cruising speedfor the boat is about 18. Seems to like that best. Fully load I can hit around 22-23. By myself I've hit 28 mph.
All speeds were by gps.
Nice boat choice, spend the extra money and get a 90 or you will kick your self in the *** down the road.
Hope this helps

Almost forgot, get the optional ski bar for the Bentley. Got to have it for tubing if you want to whip the kids/adults around!!

Re: 20 FT Bennington Engine Choice help

A point that is usually overlooked with the larger motor is you can run at the 60s top speed and the motor will be loafing and using about the same fuel as the 60.Where the 60 would be working its guts out.
The 60 will use about 6 gph(gallons per hour) at wot(wide open throttle)the 90 about 9 gph.The 90 will probably only add about 6mph at top end but will of course
adapt better to a load or pulling. While your motor choices are fine motors I would be looking at the Evinrude etec.It is a 2 stroke dfi that meets or exceeds all carb requirements. Most likely lighter than any 90 4 stroke and has fewer less complicated
service intervals.

I would go for the larger engine. I have never heard anyone say that I wish i hadn't bought the larger engine!
