Re: 20 hour service cost?

I'm sure it depends on area you are boating. I have a Bennington and F250 Yamaha with 10 hours on it and will have service at 20 hours. I I was quoted anywhere between $280 to $380. I drive it to the marina then the charges start. Charge to pull it out on trailer, charge for the service in the Yamaha manual, charge for materials - oil, water separator ect., charge to put it back in.
Note - this is a four stroke, I assume a two stroke will be less.

What is an honest cost for a dealer 20 hour service on a Yamaha f115 and a G3 2012 toon?

Dealers get around $85 to $100 an hour, if you need the boat hauled out then figure their distance & time to get there and this should give you a ballpark estimate. No haul out around $150 with a haul out around $300

What are they telling you it's needs? We never did anything but change the oil after the end of the first summer.

Most motor manuals want you to do a 20 hr check and change oil. If there are any loose particulates in the original oil it's good to get them out early. I had the dealer put Synthetic oil in ours after the 20 hr check.
They are supposed to check belts and other things.

There is really nothing to check.

Not sure that there isn't any thing to check. Last month I had my 20 hour check and they found water in the gear case, a washer/seal was not installed at the factory. They also found a bad iginition wire.

Man, doing it yourself is so easy, I can't imagine why you wouldn't. Of course, when I did mine, the oil filter was torqued on by the factory, so tight, that I had to punch holes in it, just to get it off (and I have MANY different styles of oil filter wrenches - none of them worked). What a mess.

And I put 150 hours on my motor last season, and expect to get many more this season.

On my Yamaha F150, a 20 hour service is basically an oil change and changing the lower unit lube. Yamaha doesn't even spec out changing the oil filter. Of course, they're looking for loose bolts/nuts, etc. Modern 4 strokes don't require much maintenance until 1000 hours.

I hear prices all over the place on the first service. From $200 to $300 usually.

I did my oil and filter change and lower unit fluids for $35 or so. The lower unit only takes 1 quart of lube to change--$6 @ Walmart. Oh, yea! I forgot about the cost of a kid's plastic swimming pool to drain the lower unit in. I wanted to make sure there was no water contamination or filings in the lube.
