20 hp. Evinrude caughing

I recently acquired a 20 hp. Evinrude that caughs quit a lot at idle and a little above. I took apart the carb. and cleaned ( it looked good )and installed new plugs and gapped according to manual, does anyone know what is causing this, and how to fix?<br />Thankyou, any help greatly appreciated.

Howdy, GRK.<br /><br />Coughing is usually a sign of a lean mixture. <br /><br />Depending on the year of your engine it might have a low speed mixture adjustment. Back that out about 1/2 turn and see what she does.<br /><br />If you have no low speed adjustment, recheck that you cleared the three tiny holes in the carb throat right where the throttle plate hits. They are the orifices for the low and medium speed circuits.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

JB, it's a 1990 model I pretty sure I I got all the passages clean on the carb clean, I'll try messing with the mixture screw. Thankyou for the help.
