I have a 1987 85 horse Force motor. I searched a few forums and seem to need a 20 pole tach for this motor. I just want to double check before I buy this, come to think of it where would I buy one, Autozone?

Thanks in advance,
cordell

20 pole tach is correct.
Check here at iboats see if they have what you need!

Even though it costs a little more, I like the Teleflex International Red series--0 to 8000 RPM. You should be able to get it here.

Also, Cordel, about your boat, check my reply on props forum.

By the way: if you haven't figured it out yet, that's my 15 foot Glastron in the avatar (photo)

lol Yeah I figured that. I read your post you are right with the bow open and also tri hull version. I am on my way to Sacramento right now to get some controls that are coming off a blown Force 90 horse, 1990 in year. I have been told they fit I sure hope so this is an hour drive!.

thanks,

Ooh--Ooh--Ooh! Offer an extra 100 for the engine. That way you get another lower unit, a prop, spare electronics, AND you might want to repair the 90 as a winter project.

Even if it is still on the boat, it can be removed with hand tools in about an hour, and two men CAN with a little struggle handle it. Better if you have a pick-up but it can be fit into the trunk of a good sized car.

If you should hit something and knock off a skeg, the lower unit will cost 100 to repair, and electronics are about that, so you really can't lose.

DANG! Blown engines just bring out the worst in me. They CALL to me like women--even when they are as far away as California and I get excited. That's why I have about 15 in the garage (Most work now).

Re: 20 Pole Tachometer

I would have loved to pick up the motor also but I actually found the controls through a auction on ebay. The motor was for sale and I asked if I could get controls. He agreed and I offered $30. I got their and figured out this is his 1st boat and he bought it took it out with NO work to it. 5 minutes into the first run he burnt it up, Impeller! I felt really bad for the guy but I am not about to give nobody the motor of my back of the boat, lol. I ended up with the controls for $10 as the housing was missing, they function just fine so I will make me something or another to cover them. I thank the boat gods for this site as I would more than likely be in the same boat as that guy if not for iboats!

thanks,
cordell
