Is 20 PSI Oil pressure normal at idle on a 1998 VP 5.0 GI?

Engine completely warmed up on water 50 PSI when rpms are up. 20 psi when at idle. 6 hours of running, full throttle, part throttle cruise and idle along. Engine ran great !!

The hottest the engine got was 150 degrees.

Air temp today was 85-90 F all day

Cold start the Oil Pressure is 40 psi idling.

Oil was new at winterization last fall. 30 weight dino. Still looks new.

Maybe I am just a little paranoid?

Your paranoid. As the small block Chev only requires 10psi per 1000 rpms to live a healthy life, your fine!

Thanks 'nutcase, you set my mind at ease. I am used to seeing my 2004 GMC truck 5.3 liter with 40psi at idle. Guess boats are a little different.

The SBC in your boat is a completely different animal from your 5.3

Just about any oil pressure at idle is OK for a SBC, just don't get up over 70 on the high side or they tend to spin bearings.

Marine engines use a high volume pump and not high pressure.
