I have a 1989 28 hp Johnson 20" shaft and I would like to shorten it to 15". Can this be done and how would I go about doing it?

IF you have a 5 inch spacer housing between your exhaust leg and lower unit this is feasible. If not too $$$.Also too bad you are not in MA.I think I have parts to do this, from making them long shafts.<br />DHP

Before you do anything I would try what you have and see how it peroforms. I run a long shaft 9.9 on a short shaft transom 13' runabout & it performs quite nicely. I would however do the conversion if I had the parts on hand.

DHP is correct...if you have the 5" section between lower unit and driveshaft housing, you can change it over in about fifteen minutes. You'll need the shorter driveshaft, water tube, and shift lever.
