Hello fellas, I have an opportunity to buy a good running 2003 200HP Etec powerhead with a bad lower unit and midsection. My neighbor has a 1996 ocean pro 200 with one cylinder with no compression that he has replaced. Is it at all possible and worthwhile to put a 2003 ETEC 200 powerhead on top of the 1996 Open pro 200's midsection and lower unit? Is this a good reliable year for the ETEC? His ocean pro was babied and ran daily, we live on the water. Thanks for sharing any insight and experience with this!

It can be done but will need some rigging. You will need to swap adapter plates and tuner, you will also need to swap shift shafts as the 3.3l is .475 longer than a 3l and there is a difference in cowling skirt lengths so the 03 skirts may not fit a 96 midsection. I myself may try it but wouldn't recommend it for a backyard DIY mechanic. Also if lower unit and midsection are damaged it had a major accident and I would stay away from that powerhead.

Owner of the 2003 powerhead says his mechanic forgot to tighten bolts in lower unit and that's what caused damage. Didn't ask too much yet since I wasn't sure if the two different outboards were compatible. Are the 2003 engines reliable and fuel efficient? Thanks for all the help, it's really appreciated
