I have a 1996 Four Winns 200 Horizon. The 1996 has a Ford 5.8L engine with Volo Penta outdrive. My problem is intermittent starting problems. About one in every ten starts, you turn the key and .. nothing. Plenty of power to the instruments but the starter doesn't turn over. I've replaced the starter and solenoid. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Re: 200 Horizon w/ intermittent start

Could be bad starter switch, neutral safety switch, relay etc.
Does this happen with any other eletrical load on such as a bildge blower?
If you battery is low try turning off the blower just before cranking and
it might start. Had the same problem with a 1996 5.0 Fl.

Re: 200 Horizon w/ intermittent start

I have a 97 horizon rx and I have had the same problem, every thing has power even the trim but she won't turn over, I thought it was the battery contections but it turnes out it is the neutral safety I discovered this while trying to give it gas at the carb I must have moved the throttle linkage just enough and she fired right up. I proved it to myself a few times after.

Hope that helps
