200 hp 1977 crossflow RINGS BROKE disassembly HELP

Hello,
#3 Piston ring broke, and damaged #1 piston and ring land area too. Engine still runs up to 4800 rpm under load. Do I need to split the crankcase halves, or can I access the piston rod bolts through the engine block front end (behind the carbs and intake manifold). In other word I don't want to remove the powerhead from the exhaust housing. Thanks for any help.

Gotta pull the powerhead and split the cases.

Yup its alot of fun. Speicly on the 100hp + Cause the powerheads are really nice and light and very easy to move around d (Not)

You need to stop running the motor.

You can do alot more damage, to the point rebuilding would'nt be worth it.

Ok, I will not run it again, (only ran it to get home). I'm going to buy a new engine. Can anyone think of any rebuilders or individuals than would buy it ? It's a very clean fresh water motor, the trim works, but the tilt drifts but then holds at the top of the trim range. Compression is #1-6: 95, 105, 0, 110, 100, 110. The engine can be viewed in Tonawanda NY 14150. Thanks

I dont know what you have in it.

But if your an e-bayer, you might want to consider , parting it out.

You'd be surprised , at both the demand, and the selling price ,for the various parts

Take a look at the parts listed for sale , and you'll get the idea.

Easy to get 2k plus, if your so inclined.

And not in a rush, may take time to sell .
