the model number is j200stlevb the serial number is g04288686 where do you find out information about the motor i was driving across the lake when the motor started to rattle and then cut off i looked at the motor and found it covered in moss after about 10 minutes i started it up and drove to the dock the next day i hooked up a hose to it and found a crack in the powerhead it is on the number 2 cylinder behind the starter and behind the carb. i filed a claim with the insurance and he came out and looked at it and said that he thought that it was not covered and i would have to take it somewhere and have it broke down i have the boat for about 8 -12 months any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated thanks jim

Was the lower unit covered in moss or which part of the motor? I doubt insurance will cover it, it's like blowing an engine in a car, they don't care, and aren't going to cover it unless it's been in a wreck. Perhaps you should have "accidentally backed into a wall" with it before calling the ins. guy.
If it has a cracked powerhead it doesn't sound good. Is anything coming out of the crack? You can probably find a used powerheard on ebay or something similar at a fraction of the cost that's it's going to be to fix it. I'm looking at $500+ in just parts to rebuild a 3cyl., and that's with me doing all the work except boring the cylinders over. If it does have a crack, you can't rebuild it anyways, it's going to have to be replaced.
