have a friend that is having issues with a alarm. it happens in two stages.

here is what happens.

if he starts the engine and lets it idle for a good bit the "oil alarm" light will turn on, but no audible. If he turns off the engine and restarts it, the light will be out, but if it idles for a bit it will come back on. If he runs at a greater speed the audible and oil alarm will be both on. if he slows down restarts the engine there will be no audible or light for the oil alarm.

The oil tank is full.

any suggestions on trouble shooting?

Thanks

Re: 200 hp Vindicator alarm

Couple of points...first, if you suspect no oiling for any reason, be safe and start pre-mixing your gas. 50-1.
Second, anytime that tach turns a light on, you should get an audible 10 sec beep, but only when the engine is running.
Third, all your alarms are triggered by tan wires coming from the engine to the tach. Tans with colored stripes. No oil is tan/yellow, low oil is tan/black, fuel restriction is tan/orange, and overheat is solid tan.

For debugging only, you can disconnect any of the sensors at the source, and see if the alarming goes away. If it does, you have found the source of the issue that is triggering the tach. If it does not go away, the problem could be the tach itself. It kinda sounds like it, because you have audible sometimes and not others....all the circuitry to drive the horn and detect the fault to trigger alarms is in the tach.

So, if you suspect the OMS pump (VRO), simply disconnect the 4 wire plug, and run it. 50 to 1 pre-mixed gas, of course.

OMS is generally tested by marking the tank, running the engine, and verifying that the engine is using oil out of the tank as the oil level drops.
