I have twin Yamaha 2001, 200hp, HPDI's. I started having a problem with the power trim on the starboard engine. The problem came on slowly. First it wouldn't trim up from the helm. I would then go to the engine and work the relay trim switch up and down a few times until it started working again. That worked about 10 times. Now the engine will not raise at all. I can hear clicking in the power trim when I work the relay switch but it will not raise up. I think I may have seen some fluid on the water around the engine, but I'm not sure if that had anything to do with this problem.

I can hear the trim motor run when lowering and it sounds normal, but can only hear clicking when raising.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Check the blue wire on the output side of the relay for voltage when keying the up trim. If you don't have voltage there and do have it on the keying wire the relay is bad.

Common problem. Its the weak link of a Yamaha Bad trim motors. You need a new trim motor. The new ones seem to be ok.

hello
if the motor wil run one way it will run the other.
its a 2 wire motor. you should have a showa unit. its the same unit as the jonny rudes tohatsu and a few others. yes some of the motors had some issues. you really need a good service manual and a good digital voltmeter and possibly a decent understanding of a permanant magnet dc motor operation. all the solinoid does is apply voltage of the proper polarity to make the trim motor spin clock wise or counter clockwise. if it can go one way it can go the other.
if your seeing trim fluid on the water its time to fix a leak.
good luck and keep posting
