200 johnson oil filter question

need to know if there is an oil filter separate from engine its in the oil copartment wher i fill my oil tank, oil injected vro, outside of filter is rusted cant make it out weather its an oil filter or a fuel separator had the boat 2 years 1996 wellcraft excel never really paid attention to it no prblem with engine like to keep up on maintenance need some advice

It sounds like that is a fuel/water separator. The only filter for the oil is an oil sock down at the bottom of the resevoir, on the intake tube. If it looks like a car oil filter than it's a fuel/water separator.
