Hello

I have a 2001 200 Mercury EFI. I was finishing up a bass tournament and I heard 4 Beeps. I know it warns me of Oil or temp warnings? last year I had it goin off but only 3 beeps. Which in turn I replace all dry rot oil lines along with oil tank on board of boat. That warning would start right away, however this time this warning is intermediate.
I will keep it short and try to explain. From my last repair the mechanic told me that if the oil tank on the motor got low the warning buzzer would go off. So when it went last Sunday after my tournament I checked it, and yes it was low, so i filled it back up. Thinking everything was fine. Then this past sunday i had another Tourney, I launched the boat everything was fine till I got maybe a mile down river and the Buzzer sounded " Beep Beep Beep Beep" than it stoped. I shut it down checked the oil, its ok, and can see exhaust as if it was getting oil? I continued to fish drifting the current. Started to Rain had to move. Fired it up drove back up river no problems, maybe 2 miles. No alarm. Fished awhile than fired it back up and went about a quarter mile and the beeps came back. I dont understand it seems to be Intermediate alarm. What should i do or check with out spending $80hr shop labor?? thanks for you help

I'm not sure what you mean by an "Intermediate alarm" but on that model, 4 beeps every two minutes means low oil. The alarm system only senses that the oil is low, so you could have a failed sensor or the float in the tank is bad and sounding a false alarm. Start by performing and ohms test on the sensor per the service manual, if the sensor passes the test, the float in the tank is either sunk or the magnet in the float fell out.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Tech for your reply...

By intermediate I guess i should of said sporadic. I can run down river 2 miles and no alarm, and sometimes I can just start it up and let it run for a couple of minutes and it will go off. It is just inconsistent when it decides to go off....

Now when you say float in the tank, you mean the one onboard tank and not the on on the motor?

Everything worked great last year, and now that i ran it for the first time this year i had a problem. Now i Filled my oil tank all the way to start the new year. The tank on board the boat. I filled it so I thought maybe I ddint put the lid back on tight, but it was, so I quess I will check the few things you said......

Sorry for the delayed reply, but the tank on the motor is the culprit with 4 beeps every two minutes. The float is not servicable and requires tank replacement.
