Please help if you can. I have twin, 94, Ocean Pro 200s, both have been running fine so far this season. Yesterday when I cranked them up, the port engine sounded like it was not firing on all 6 cylinders, so I checked for spark and sure enough the 3 plugs on the right side, (looking from the rear) were not firing at all. I figure it is the power pack, and replace it today, nothing, still not firing at all. New plugs, swapped coils, new temp. switches, still no change. So..... what will cause one side to not fire like this? Any suggestions?

The starboard side is tied into the shift switch interrupter. Make sure that's in adjustment and not bad itself.

A quick check would be to unplug it and recheck spark. If you start the motor that side will not shut off with the switch unplugged.

Good luck!

Re: 200 Ocean Pro - No fire on 3 cyl

Can you kindly advise: What is the purpose of the Shift Switch Interrupter?

A colleague had the exact problem solved yesterday by the marina mechanic. The problem and the solution are *Exactly* as described in this little discussion.

I promptly looked for this part in my (older) OMC shop manual--could not find a shift interrupter.

Where is it? What does it do? Which model years use it? (Does a 1988 OMC use one?)

Thank you.
Ken

OK, I found that in the book, under shift switch test, page 154 if using Clymers manual, will test that now, as a new stator is $320.00, Thanks

Re: 200 Ocean Pro - No fire on 3 cyl

The idea is to assist shifting out of gear by temporarily "killing" 3 cylinders to lower the idle for a second. With the undercut used on todays clutch dogs and gears its sometimes difficult to get the motor out of gear especially if the motor is idling slightly high.

Not all motors have the interrupters. As a matter of fact the switch was missing on my 150 60 degree when I bought it. I rebuilt the motor and it idles low enough that its not needed.

Update - Got it! It was the shift interupter switch. Pulled the single pin connector and 1,3,& 5 fired fine, I will replace it, but at least now I am in business for the weekend. Thanks for the help. The switch is located in the bottom of the cowling, on the starboard side, under the shift linkage, blk to ground, blk & yellow to power pack.

Good deal! Just make sure its not simply out of adjustment. See? Now you have a spare $320.00 to put towards refreshments!

Have a happy boating weekend!

Sorry guys, been on the water all day. She ran great. I see the switch can slide up and down, will try adjusting it before buying a new one. Thanks again for the help.
