I have a pair of 115 Fichts that I have not used for 6 months, I started them yesterday and both had not a drop of water from the tell tale, now does anyone know if the tell tale works even with the thermoststs closed? or is it more likely both Water pumps died at exactly the same time (they were both replaced about 18 months ago, or is it more likely both Thermoststs have jammed closed? the tell tales are not blocked, and it is completely dry behind them if you unscrew the plastic flusher/nozzle piece, any "best guess" as to what to look at first? I have a twin hose flusher setup, so water pressure is not an issue.

one more thing, does the gear linkage undo from the top of the Engine or from the gearcase end?

The tell tales outlet is before the t stat, so that would not affect it.

Neither would a faulty impeller, since the water is force fed from the hose that you are using, by passing the water pump per se.

You have a blockage in the cooling circuit somewhere. Odd that both happened at identical times though. The usual spot when they sit is the tell tale water line, or nipple. Little critters love to build nests in there.

Other than that, you may need to drop the lower, and flush either the garden hose, or compressed air, up the water line, then back flush down, until you have sufficient flow. Also ensure that the water intake area is not full of debris.

OK, so the tell tale will work if the thermostat is stuck closed (I thought it did, but was not 100% sure) I don't think ypou will get enough pressure from the flushers to make water come out of the tell tale, I have never seen it before, it is kind of odd that both have died at exactly the same time, I guess it could be some sort of wasp/hornet/ants nest hiding somewhere, I could not see anything yesterday, do you know if they could get further up inside and nest?? might try and reverse flush a bit more from the upper connection instead of the "ears" flusher, the Motor is getting hot, so there is really no water circulation.

anyone know about the gear linkage?? I am going to look at this tomorrow and would at least have a slight advantage, rather than just learn as I break something.

I wish I could help. My 1989 Johnson 120 has a screw that is attach to the shifting linkage that connects it to the shaft to the lower unit. It is located under the air intake on the bow side of the engine. The drive shaft is splined in with a o-ring that fit in the groove on the upper side of the shaft.

I do suggest thought you get a service manual. You can also look at the parts manual on the BPR site. It has a parts diagram for each engine section. My teardown was made easier by my Johnson Service Manual I got on eBay. I believe iboats also has service manuals.
