Just replaced the trim switch. There is a retaining plate with a thin rod aft of the switch. What is being retained?? The trim switch is routed under that retainer and rod.I would need to remove the retainer plate to get the old switch out of there and to route the new switch wires.I already replaced the switch leaving the old one under the retainer and routing the new wires over the retainer.I dont know what the retainer is holding or what the rod is so I am apprehensive to fiddle with it if not necessary.Anyone know what is aft of the switch??? Charlie

What is the model of the motor? They are not all the same.

I suspect you are talking about a bracket. The bracket that holds the switch in place. Not understanding how you installed a new switch without having removed the bracket.

The retaining plate/bracket in question is "Aft" of the trim switch or lower in the pic.The pic is prior to my changing out the switch. The switch and switch bracket is in the top of the pic.

That was not so hard now was it?

Bolts hold bracket in place. Bracket holds the switch in place.

I appreciate any assistance from anyone but I don't think you are reading my post completely.I am referring to the black plate that is aft and perpendicular to the trim switch and it's bracket lower in the pic.

I misread your post. Thinking it was about replacing the lower cowling mounted trim and tilt switch. Photo has the trim and tilt switch centered. Subject of this thread is about the trim and tilt switch.

#48 is the rod with a loop at the end of it. The loop I am presuming to have something fit down within it. Wires and such.

While the flat strap at the end is also helping to hold something in place. At least the wires to the trim and tilt switch.

You are in the better position to see what it is holding in place.

Hopefully someone here knows what the rod is for. If not Im just gonna leave it alone. The old trim switch wires run under it and the new trim wires are supposed to run under it.I can snip the wires of the old one to get it out of there and I can let the wires from the new switch sit on top of the plate.I can tape the wires to prevent any chafing. I just hate to fiddle with something when I am not familiar with it.Thanks again!! Charlie

Yes just one bolt on that one and I guess the other side is a pivot point.Just wish I could find out what the silver rod is ? Looks to attach under the bracket.

The rod is part of the plate that gets bolted down. The rod is formed into a channel into which wires can lay to be restrained from movement. Flat plate prevents vertical movement. Looped part of the wire prevents lateral movement. Side to side movement.

Thanks again. So looks like the rod is simply part of the retaining function.I will take a closer look at mine but it does not look like there is anything I can screw up here. Thats good news!! Thanks again Charlie
