2000 200hp Saltwater series ,Replaced trim cowl switch, what is this retainer piece???

Note to self.......Use a bright flashlight when working under shrink-wrap.I climb under the shrink-wrap to do some off season maintenance all the time.This time I THOUGHT I was able to see what I needed to see but not everything.A much brighter flashlight made it much easier to see under that entire bracket/retainer. I was completely overthinking it by not actually seeing the entire bracket.Job complete, thanks Boscoe99
