For starters, I'm new to the forum. A big Hello from Texas.
My question is (which is what brought me to this forum), as the title says I have a 2000 model Yamaha 40hp 2 stroke. 2 years ago I purchased a tilt and trim relay for it because it was doing the usual clicking that most talk about when trying to trim it up or down. I spent well over $250 on a new OEM relay + labor.
A month ago, it started doing the same thing again. And I had a friend of mine check it to make sure that it was the tilt and trim relay. In deed it was. This time instead of spending $125 on the relay, I would like to install two standard 4 pin SPDT automotive relays that some have discussed on here. Their about $11 each. My understanding, it takes 2 (one for up, one for down) I was hoping if someone could send me a link on the wiring diagram. Or maybe has some electrical experience that could answer some questions I may have. I understand the concept of a relay somewhat, but I'm also a little unsure.
I tried the search section and I'm not seeing what I need. I know there has to be something on it here. YouTube has a couple videos that don't really pertain to what in trying to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks y'all.

Are these relays able to handle the current the T&T needs?
that motor take more than you would think

Service manual should have wiring diagrams to help understand.

Yes sir. Their 30 amp. But if for some reason they can't handle it, then I can always change them to something higher. Right now I'm just trying to get the wiring diagram figured out.
One of my questions is, what are the smaller blue and green wires that are connected with the larger blue and green wires? I understand the blue is for up and the green is for down, but are the smaller wires control control voltage to open and close the relay?

yes the small wires are from the T&T switches for control

good luck turning you motor into a Frankenstein with all sorts of non original parts

bad connections, Bad T&T Motor, brushes, water in T&T motor or rust can also cause clicking without motor turning

And good luck to you replacing expensive OEM parts over and over, every couple years.
Thanks for your help

mine is a 1999 40 and still using the original relay.
make sure the relay is the problem before doing strange things to it.

but if depending on others to tell you what the problem is kind of leaves you in their hands
