Just bought this motor. It has brand new plugs. He started it up first pull when I looked at it, ran strong, and didn't die. So I take it out to the lake on my boat and have a tough time starting it. After about 5-6 pulls I get it to start, it ran for about 15-20 seconds, then lost RPM's and died- even when I throttle it up to try and keep it going. This pattern repeated itself for 20 minutes. (WILD CARD: there was a small diameter tube running to the carb that was disconnected because the clamp was missing- the guy I bought it from said it related to the primer- he ran it with this little tube disconnected with no problem. After ten minutes of trying at the lake I reconnected the tube, and nothing changed.) A few possibilities- the fuel system wasn't drained after the last use and it has been 100 deg. the past week. Could the fuel have gone bad? Also when it did run, it smoked quite a bit. I am assuming the problem is related to the fuel line- although continuously pressing the portable tank's bulb would not keep it running. (there also is an additional primer bulb nearby the carb) any thoughts?
