Hello all, I have a 2000 5.0L Mercruiser MCM I/O engine in a Sea Ray 21ft bowrider. I always question myself during winterization as to how many blue drain plugs I should have/drain. The manual is confusing in that it covers a few engine set ups.

I believe I should have five, one engine block one manifold for each side and one on the large water hose off the T stat housing.

Am I correct? This time I will write it into the manual!!!!:) Thanks Ike

I Filled the rest of it in for you here.:D Yes you should have five, One on each side of the engine block it's self, One at each exhaust manifold, And one at the bottom of the large water hose coming from the T stat housing.;):)

Also see number 13 in this link, I see five blue plugs to, Also Don't for get to poke the sand out of the way when draining.

I too had the same question the other day as I drained my 06 5.0 and poured antifreeze in it. I only had four blue plugs I could find. 1 under each manifold, 1 on the port side of the block, and 1 on the large hose that hooks onto the water pump on the starboard side. On the merc diagram, I may be blind but I only see 4 13`s. I know I will be going back to the storage and check the starboard side block, cause I won`t be able to sleep nights, even though I did pour 3 gallons of antfreeze into all the hoses coming off the thermo manifold, after I drained all 4 plugs. I`m probably safe, but i`ll be double checking!! THANKS :eek:

There are 2 for the block, check near/just under the fuel pump area .May have a extention on it or under the knock sensor.

Thanks all, That is always an issue with manuals for me. They are not engine/boat specific and unclear on a specific model/situation.
I am also easily confused!!!:confused::confused:

Maddog, definitely go back and look. It doesn't make sense that the starboard block doesn't have a drain.

And to restate Boat Tek advise, when I first pulled the blocks plugs the first time a winterized it, nothing drained out. But when I stuck my little wire up there all this muck and tons of water drained out, I was very surprised that it could form such a nice plug to block the drain.

Also have a question, does water ALWAYS drain out? I could not get any water to drain out of the port side manifold drain. Could this be correct or is it blocked?

Thanks again
