i have a vp 5.7 gsi pwtr that is not getting fuel to the injectors. one of my many q's are what could cause this? when i turn the key to the on position my fuel pumps primes for 3 sec. when i crank the key the motor turns over but no fuel flows from my tbi..could this be a faulty ignition module? any test that i can preform to figure this out would be much appreciated.. thanks

I thinking U have fuel to the injectors, but they are not firing when the motor cranks.

If this is the case, check to see if U can see 300 rpm on the tach when cranking the motor. If no rpm is seen then the ECM does not know the motor is cranking and therefore no fuel will be released

Now if its not getting fuel to the injectors then check fuel pressure

I will check tomorrow....if I don’t see 300rpm does this mean I have a faulty ignition module?

thanx dodge

Could be, but could also be a bad connection on the tach or other place

Need to find out what your fuel pressure is at the TB. Will need an adapter Tee fitting which may be able to get at the auto store renating a fuel pressure gauge

I have a schreader valve on the hardline that goes from the hp pump to the tbi... i did some reading last night...
today I will crank and check for 300rpm as stated above.
I will measure resistance in the cable from the coil to the ignition module. I was reading that if the ohms are different between the two directions of the cable it is considered good... if they are the same then it is faulty... can this cable be picked up at an auto parts store?

and using a test light look to see if I’m getting the net pulse to the injectors while cranking

i will post my results

Don't know which distributor you have but if its the EST then here is how its tested

EST Dist.jpg
Have not heard the method of measuring resistance in both directions to determine if its good. This would be acceptable if there was a diode inline, but the distributor does not use one of those that I'm aware of

You need a voltmeter to test voltage and a NOID liht to check injectors. Start with the basics first. If your getting spark but not gas, put a very small amount down the TB (very little) and see if the motor starts. If it does you have spark but not fuel. If it does not start, then go further into the dizzy and coil trouble shooting

Ok, with my test light Ike not receiving my neg pulse while cranking....
while cranking I get about 200 rpm on the tach...
checked ohms both ways on the on the cable from the ignition module to the coil. read 2.4 both directions. So I’m assuming I have a bad diode....

Do you have spark?
No diode in harness between coil and dist. but there is an inductor in the pink wire. To test it you disconnect the two wire at the dist. ---- key on ----- probe terminal A (pink wire) with test light, should light up. Note: you should use a tester that draws some current so there is a load.

Ok as with most things in life it’s always best to start simple and work through the problem from one end to the other... I think I jumped into the problem in the middle but by dumb luck I think I figured it out

so I went to test fuel pressure on the schreader valve on the high pressure line... Here is where I had to get creative since my pressure kit doesn’t have a fitting that can hook up to the schreader valve... I removed the schreader and hooked up my attachments... turned the key to the on position and zero... cranked the motor zero psi.... I took off the fittings and left the line open and the smallest amount of fuel came out. So I then turned my attention the the low pressure pump... it had power to the electrical connector but didn’t seam to work... I removed the pump and bench tested it... nothing... a few smacks with a hammer and it fired up on the bench...

i reinstalled it and the boat fired up... ordered a new lp pump that will be in Thursday for install...

thanks for the help guys.... I’ll update Thursday after install

Glad you got it sorted out. Well done.

must admit though...all the talk of high pressure fuel pumps and injectors, as in being more than one of them on a tbi...was confusing me, with a tbi GSi engine. Haha.

How much did the new LP pump cost? Did you go OEM or aftermarket?
