Bought a pontoon that had been sitting for a couple of years. I was trying to run the engine in the yard after cleaning the carbs with the water muff. I think i had had a fuel hose crimped after reinstalling carbs and airbox. I was having issues keeping it running when i started it and it fired and engine went to high rev's and wouldn't shut off. I turned key off pulled safety stop lanyard and it still kept running....in my panic i hit gearshift cause i thought linkage may have been hung.
In doing this i believe it got shifted in forward and reverse and screwed up the lower unit gears. I took the lower unit off and proceeded to dismantle it to try and see how much damage was done. Pulled the lowest screw out and i found a lot of metal shavings in the grease. I hear a lot of metal grinding and clanging when shaking the lower unit.
I have removed the shift cover, shift rod, gear shaft bearing housing cover and 2 other screws. My problem is i think i have pulled off all the screws and bolts but don't know how to get the gears and drive haft out. Is there a special tool that removes the prop shaft housing and the drive shaft? or do they pry out?

I have pretty much figured it's gonna cost a arm and leg to fix.
