Hello, I'm still in the process of converting this manual everything motor to work with a console. I'm in no rush as I don't have the console built yet, but do have all the supplies to make it. I am trying to find out which control I would need for this engine. Right now it's manual start, manual prime, tiller, but am working on piecing together an electric start for it. I went on to shop.evinrude.com and looked at the controls, but there's like 5-6 different options. I think I narrowed it down to 2, but still can't tell for sure. I'm going to be mounting the controls as a side mount, either on the side of the console or the side of the boat (haven't decided between side mount console or center console).
Would anyone have a rear range I would be looking for, or perhaps the P# for whichever one is correct?
I'm not sure if I can use just any control or not. I'm trying to locate it on ebay or somewhere cheaper than evinrude online.
Thanks

Why not just sell that motor and buy another one with the controls? Controls could run you $2000 or more and might not be as good as a factory setup. You might be able to buy a complete used motor of that age for that money. If you insist on converting your motor, then look for a blown up motor of the same model with controls and rob parts off of that.

Building the console is not a big deal - just requires basic materials and carpenty/metal working skills.

I can't see controls costing $2000. The shop I bought it at had quoted somewhere in the range of $450 to convert it to electric start, but I never inquired about the steering/control part. All I'm going to have is a push button for a start I believe, which isn't a big deal, the motor is right behind me, so reaching back to manually prime it isn't a big deal.
I already have the sheet metal and a metal bender here to make my console, I'm just not doing it yet until I have all the parts. It's not taking up much space right now since it's flat.
I don't see any point to selling my motor when I know the history on it. I would not want to spend $1500-$2000 on a used motor I have no knowledge of. I know mine is a great engine for the hp/weight of it (biggest you can go before a 3cyl), and have done all the maintenance on it myself, so I know it's in good shape. I'm just looking to find some part #'s or which controls will work for me so I can try to find a used set. I know a guy around me who has an outboard junkyard, but I need to know what to look for before I go out there.

Sorry that I can't help you with the part numbers. Earlier this summer, I priced a new 40 hp, with and without controls. If I remember correctly, the difference was about $1500 from the factory. The factory units include a lot of wiring for gauges and warning systems that one does not need for a basic set up.

More important than part numbers might be a wiring diagram of the unit that you want to make it into. With that, you should be able to build what you want. What do you plan for a charging system to go with that starter? Watch out for frying ignition parts when rigging up your own system. Good luck with it!
