My oil pressure gauge is not functioning. I am trying to determine whether it is the sending unit or the gauge itself. I am a new boater trying to work out some problems. Boat runs fine, motor is practically new (2007). The sending unit looks like an acorn on the diagrams I have but it doesn't show exactly where it is located on the engine itself. I have a Mercruiser 5.0L. Can someone tell me where, exactly, I can find it so I can perform some tests to determine which is failing (the sender or the gauge)? Thanks in advance.

verify the connections are tight at the gauge. I would bet it's a loose connection or broken wire.

If your owner's manual has a wiring diagram, figure out the color for the sending unit and then hunt down the wire. It is possible it became disconnected at the sending unit.

Do the wires run into any dash harnesses or straight back to the sending unit?

Welcome to iboats!

If it's like its automotive cousin, the sending unit is near the oil filter.
