2000 Caravelle w/ Volvo 3.0 and SX Outdrive

Hey everyone,

As the title says I have a 2000 Caravelle / Volvo 3.0 and SX Outdrive. I am having trouble getting the engine to full RPM's. The sticker on the top of the motor reads that max w.o.t. is 4600. The most I have been able to get out of the engine is 3900 rpm. I have adjusted the trim while in the water and still have yet to reach max rpm. I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on how to reach that rpm. The throttle linkage is already at its max point, but I am wondering how to adjust the carb. If anyone could give me any pointers, that would be much appreciated.

Ayuh,... Sounds like ya need a smaller prop...

I have a 14.3x 23 on there right now??

Try a 21" or 19"...

I have almost identical motor and drive and I run a 21" pitch which allows me to hit 4500-4600 rpms (45-47 mph) in my 18 foot, 2100 lbs bowrider. What size boat is yours?

I second Bond-o's recommendation...not that he needs anyone to second his advice.

Maybe a local dealer will let you try a couple different pitches before you purchase (some have demo props for that purpose). Good luck.
