Helping my old Boss repair his boat. Crownline with a vovo V8 inboard/outboard when battery hooked up draws about 6-8 amps nothing turned on. I am electronics person disconnected Alternator thinking it might be draining battery, no help. Corrosion every where, guessing normal on boats. Main red battery terminal goes to starter and i dont see other DC wires other than alternator lead, assuming the rest of the DC is fed from motor wiring harness. I do not hear any pumps or fans running, all lights are out. My thinking is something drawing 7 amps is a normal load of some kind that is not shutting off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard

When you disconnected the ALT did you disconnect all wires or just the main orange wire?

A DVM would help trouble shooting

Morning,
Finaly got the shop manual has the schematic. Now i am in my skill set ha ha I found the probem this morning. the trim motor circuit is drawing 5-8 amps all the time. Doesn not take long to kill a battery at that size drain. Nothing is hot. Dont know exact fault at this point. Waiting on my boss to tell me what he wants to do now. Screws missin on the back side of the pump assembly. Just guessing i think one or more of the relays are welded contacts. First boat i have worked on in 50 years. FYI i found the problem using my HP current probe and my fluke DVM following the current flow with the current probe was easy to trace.
