Was hoping someone might be able to clarify what seems to be conflicting information in my manual. When setting the initial adjustment on the fuel mixture, there is one area of the manual that says to seat the screw and back out the top carb 1/4 turn and the other two carbs 1- 1/4 turns. Then the manual says to adjust under load only the bottom two carbs leaving the top carb at the initial 1/4 turn. Elsewhere in the manual there is a table that shows all carbs should be initially 1-1/4 turns before the adjustment. Has anyone heard of only setting the top carb at a 1/4 turn? What is the correct method? My idle smoothed out at a 1/4 turn but I am afraid of running too lean.

I had a 90 and 2 manuals. 1/4 turn seems to me to be 1 turn shy of a place to start and I find it odd that what I call a misprint is repeated. Not enough fuel will cause the cylinder to run lean and that means not enough oil and that means metal to metal.................

As I recall my manuals said do the 1 1/4 and if necessary open 1/8 per turn per carb until you could firewall it in the hole and the engine would take it. It if bogs open them some more. I personally would not use 1/4 turn and have never heard of such a thing in 50+ years of boating.

Additionally when screwing in all the way to start your adjustment, just finger snug so that you don't scar the conical end of the adjustment screw.
