2000 evinrude 150 dfi siezed up

Hi all,

This is my first posting here, but your forums have helped me alot in the past with my own problems. Now I am faced with buying a new motor for my bass boat. i found a 2000 evinrude 150 but the guy say that it is siezed and has been for several years. To his knowlege when it was put up it was free spinning. I dont know if he is lying or just doesnt know. what are the chances af freeing a siezed powerhead w/o total rebuild?

Welcome to iboats.

If it is a carbed engine it may be worth saving. If it is a FICHT stay away. 1997 to 2000 FICHT RAM V6s are trouble.

Well... I figured it was best to stay clear of it, the guy seemed a bit shady, I did however buy another boat with a running 1983 gt 150 johnson vro the motor idles pretty good, a fey hiccups here and there, but not often, however when you go to wot it is very slow to gain rpms and will max out at 4000. I can hold the choke in and it starts to take off, so i figure this is a fuel related problem. The vro is unhooked but I dont think he did it right, I think all he did was unhook the hose to the engine and premix his fuel. Looking at the back of the engine the top two right hand spark plugs look wet all others look good. I know that he had all new coils and a new cdi box put in just recently. the carbs were also rebuild. all of this was done a an outboard repair shop. any suggestions on where to star on this? He said the boat shop said all compression readings were good, however first thing tomorrow I am going to check them myself but I really dont think its a compression problem.

Thanks guys, I checked the link and sync, all of that was good, did a check of the rest of the fuel system just for g.p. all was well. then pulled crbs all three were pretty nasty, cleaned them and blew them out w/ air, took her out today and about threw my bud out of the boat when she took off. Thanks again all and happy boating, by the way tashasdaddy im in jax too. Stationed at NAS.
