Does anybody have any knowledge on this motor? Found one for sale for 1800...seems cheap but is it worth it . Says it starts up every time but has a "small miss" and needs a wiring harness. He said that's what a marina near us diagnosed it as. That's all the info I know .so the question is should I buy it or stay away from it .thanks .

Stay far away from that motor. It was a bad motor new and has not gotten better with age. There is no factory support for that motor and aftermarket is limited. That motor is worth nowhere near $1800 it should be priced as a parts motor only.

A bottomless hole you will throw money into...If you want a DI motor get a 2006 or higher but they are still not failure prone. Its maintenance and piston design...these motor have to have impeller changed every 2 years no matter how good it pisses. Mallory is the best impeller if you can find one as its different compound and pump about 3 psi more than stock impeller. Makes a difference when a block holds near 4 gallons of water!!!

I'm looking for a di motor for sure .my 92 225 just took a **** on me yesterday morning. But I'm not trying to spend $20,000 on a new motor when my boat is only worth maybe a quarter of that. Just trying to go over my options and I'm not trying to go back to the old carbureted Motors that burn through gas like crazy and Sal the plugs every other time I take it out

You could also convert it to a carbed motor.Which I believe your motor would be a good candidate as the donor engine for flywheel, timer base, top bearing retainer, powerpack, stator...and carbs.

You would keep the injectors in place, but disconnected and remove the EMM as it wouldn't be used and plug the oil injection ports

you'd be going to premix as well.

$1000 for the ficht would be fair ( I think)....then if you want to reduce weight ....find someone to weld a plug in each injector hole to remove the injectors.

the injectors and emm go for a pretty penny on ebay and should be able to recoup much of your cost.

Was super tempted to do that recently, but my 86 225 is still running....certaining an option if my motor craps out.

Ficht was a bad design and partially attributed to OMC's demise. They are VERY failure prone. I would avoid with the exception it was GIVEN to me, then I would think about it and probably take it and part it out.

He's asking 1800 for it. I haven't gotten a response back from him since he said he still has it

The miss could be a ring locating pin failure...could be back in same boat if your don't check it out...

When mine did it, the cylinder got scored. You could use a borescope down each plug hole. Or mine showed low compression on one hole when warmed up. Do a compression test cold, then warm and compare. I would recommend this on any used motor you're looking at. Mine ran fine except it wouldn't idle or run at low speed. It would die in the no wake zones but run fine at wot.

Only way to tell is to inspect cylinder by removing heads or inspect with scope. If it has lost pin it require a rebuild and 6 pistons as the other will soon fail. Not worth putting money into.....
