Just rebuilt my carbs yesterday completly although may have not been necessary considering age of low hour motor. Bought the kits and figured may as well do it right since I had to take apart to find the culprit blocked passages. Following service last year, idle and WOT were OK, but could tell it just wasn't running quite right and would hesitate right around 1800 RPM.
When I had them apart I found that one particular port (the tiniest one) on all four carbs was blocked. In rebuilding, went ahead and replaced all the floats and gaskets that came in the kits. I'll be spending evenings this week putting them back on the motor for testing hopefully this weekend.
Question: How critical will it be to have a certified tech adjust and sync the carbs?
I know I can't do this by myself and not sure if I can trust my auto mech bro-in-law to help get it right. I forgot to count the number of turns when I removed the pilot screws.

Thanks,
Jay

without the tech-mate or eqivalent manometer and the service manual it can be all but impossible to get it correct.

You can get in the ballpark by backing the idle screw off so that the carb it's attached to's butterfly is completely closed. Then work your way away from that carb from the nearest carb to the furthest carb so that they all open at exactly the same time. Then reset the idle screw for the right RPMs. But beyond that is impossible without the manometers. 1/16 of a turn is huge when dialing them in.
