Hello all New to the forum!!

We are buying (I hope) after test drive tomorrow a 2000 Glastron 225, has the Volvo-Penta 5.0L with the SX outdrive?? Its not the duo so I assume thats the correct model...Anyway he has it listed for around 10K. We went looked at it, all vinyl is in great condition, Has all the carpet etc, He ran it for us on the trailer runs very quiet and very cool, no issues there, He addded a second battery, but he fried the altenator when he hooked them up, So he has replaced that as well. The only thing that doesn't work is the trim indicator, Should I be concerned about that? Have been reading up on it and think I can do without or replace myself if that is the problem...Won't know until I get it. I looked at all the cushions and they seem in great shape. The floor didn't have any soft spots, He is selling it with all the stuff you need for USCG inspection, plus the mooring covers and bow covers which has new snaps on it, Plus a set of skies/tube and all ropes and vests required. The trailer is a loadrite, has new brakes. So what do you all think, Is this a good deal? Bank tells me the value is around 15k, Oh and it also has the Bimini Top which looks new, He is selling cause I think it scares his wife all the bouncing around and stuff. Okay I'm done, Sorry for the long post...

Thanks in advance!!

Re: 2000 Glastron 225

i think you may find that to be a pretty good package......

the volvo drive is fantastic.....its a standard chev 5.L

the glasstrons have allways been good boats.....

but all the accesories hes throwin in are worth a bundle.....test it on the water....and if your not sure....hire a marine surveyor....its worth it....

btw...as far as the trim gauge....im sure our gurus in the electronics forum will have that up and working in no time....

welcome to i boats....this is the best place on the net for anything about boats.

cheers

inho, trim guages are a waste of money and time. you can feel if it is set in the proper position. i have a 1999 Volvo 5.7 with SX drive, you can't beat them.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame. You walk all over the deck, that a mallot, or hammer with wooden handle, using handle, tap all over the transom, a shape rap is good solid base, a thud, is questionable base.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. (This part for outboard motors Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,)
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.
boat motor combo, A 30 year old may be in better condition, than a 3 year old

Test ride today! Very impressed with the boat, Hope to take ownership tomorrow :D, The current owner wants to replace one of the break lights on the trailer. And put a new strap on the winch :)

Found another benefit when we got there, It has a SS prop, So that was nice (I think), On the trim indication, when he put the stern drive all the way up it seems like it was touching the swim platform on the boat. Should I be concerned?

Anyway can't wait to get it in the driveway!! Will post pics when I get a chance.

I'm sure this is a little late, but if you bought the boat, I'm hoping you are enjoying it as much as I have my Glastron GX225 with the 5.0L Volvo GL SX.
It was well worth the 10k if you got one in good shape.
