I recently purchased a 2000 Johnson 115-HP Two-Stroke. The engine runs like a top at all speeds but it has a very noticable tic that is most evident at lower rpms. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it common for this engine or does anyone have a suggested diagnosis?

Re: 2000 Johnson 115 HP with Tic.

cant wait for some replies, i have a 97 90 hp that i bought with a tick, and it ran great but that tapping worried me, as it did the previous owner.

I thought because he ran it so long with that tap it could nt be serious...but in the end, because I use my boat in the winter, i set the motor aside and got another...

taking the flywheel off is such a task, i havent done it yet to look around for the source...

i ended up figuring it might be a rod tap.....but i dont know, orginally I was thinking something under the flywheel

can you locate the AREA you think your might be in???

good luck too

I don't know what it is but I have had 2 115s with that tick. At first it bothered me but after listening to it for about 15 years I learned to ignore it.

Interesting! Does anyone have a thought as to how we get a response on this issue from the manufacturer? Personally the tic doesn't bother me as long as the engine doesn't blow up 30 miles out from camp.
